LAKERS ARE CHAMPIONS!

A Note From Coach Wingren Regarding the Championship Trophy:

Hi Lakers
Thank you all for a great season. It was very exciting for me. I'm very proud to have been your coach. You guys have proven to me that a great defense and great pitching can win over good hitting. Believe me, you all deserve to be Babe Ruth Champions.
The trophy is going to the engravers and I should have it back soon. If you would respond with the date you would like to have it, I will make out a schedule and order in which you will have it. You can have it for two weeks each. If there is a special week you would like to have it, just let me know. After the schedule is made up I will send you all a copy. We can exchange it in two ways. You can just hand it over to the next person on the list or return it to me and I will see to it that they get it. We do need to return it to Mr. Brookes before the start of next season.
Thanks again, Have fun showing off your Trophy.

2011 Graduates (Danny, Joey, Owen, Nick)

Congratulations 2011 Graduates.

Danny Heeren - Danny won the Most Improved Player Award this season, which is even more impressive because Danny was already an excellent player. In the 2011 championship season, in all of the games Danny pitched, he allowed ZERO runs! He has been a solid infielder and catcher, and has been an important presence in the Lakers dugout for 3 years.

Joey DeRose - Finished the 2011 postseason with the Most Valuable Player Award. He struck out a quarter of all of the batters that he faced in the playoffs. Joey was a workhorse as well, he won 2 games in 2011, where he threw over 150 pitches. Joey's arm as well as his consistent bat (batted .457 in 2011) will certainly be missed along will his leadership.

Owen Taggart - Joining the Lakers in 2010, Owen is one of the most well liked players on the team. He played a very important role in the winning season of 2010, as well as the Championship 2011 season. He has made a great deal of  important plays in left field, keeping the Lakers defense on top. Owen has shown to be a very hard worker. He is a quiet presence, but a steady one.

Nick Gelinas - No one will soon forget Nick's performance in the 2011 Championships. He came in to pitch in game 2, with the team down a couple of runs and simply dominated the Cardinals, no-hitting them over 3 innings (including 6 K's), while the team chipped away and came back to win miraculously. His intensity and enthusiasm was a driving force on the team since he started in 2009. He finished the 2011 season with a .463 batting average and a very solid first base.

These four Lakers were the heart of the 2011 Championship team and will be missed, but their legacy will certainly remain. We wish them the best of luck in the future.

The 2010 Lakers Finished 10-6-3!

2010 Lakers Graduates

The Lakers bid farewell to our great 2010 graduates.

Tyler, Nick, Greg, and Mike

It was a hard fought year and the 2010 Lakers have certainly made the coaches and fans proud. We will greatly miss our 2010 graduates as they helped make up the heart and soul of this team for the past three years.

Tyler Gribbons - Tyler will be greatly missed. Any team would love to have a solid backstop like Tyler catching games. Runners in the league had to always think twice about trying to steal, and usually they regretted that decision. You could always count on Tyler for a clutch hit and a needed laugh. We will remember him for his hard nosed playing style.

Nick Deluccia - Nick was one of the finest pitchers to come through the league in a long time. Usually reserved, he did most of his talking with the bat and ball.  Nick also was known for his powerful hitting. Players usually move back when he is up. He will be missed for his strong heart and his desire to win. He was a great role model to the younger players.

Greg Christiano - Greg was always the last kid to leave after the game, and always shook the coaches hand and said thank you. He is one of the most respectful young men to have played in this league. Greg is respected by everyone in Babe Ruth both for his fairness and for his incredible talent. Aside from being a powerful and clutch leadoff hitter, he has one of the finest gloves you'll ever see. If a ball was hit his way, you knew he was going to make the play.

Mike Antonelli - AKA "Mikey Clutch". He may have been the most quiet guy on the team, but when it really mattered, when the most pressure was on, Mikey always seemed to come up with a monster clutch hit. Aside from being the anchor that helped make our outfield the best in the league, he is one of the nicest young men we have known.

On a side note, the Lakers also appreciate the Parents. We appreciate all that you have done for our team. We appreciate all of the trips back and forth to practice and games. We appreciate you understanding time changes, postseason, rain, hail, ice packs, our hour-before the game policy, and our long speeches after the game policy. Thank you for being the best parents and setting a great example for the rest of the league.

I think there are only three things that America will be known for 2,000 years from now when they study this civilization: the Constitution, jazz music and baseball. They're the three most beautifully designed things this culture has ever produced.
